Howdy folks! It’s that time again for me to do the semi sporadic update to the blog. I know your getting excited!
We recently returned to the sunshine state for a gig with the Ashley Gang in Deland, playing a fund raiser for the Deland UU church. By my estimation it was a pretty successful event, with a very enthusiastic crowd. It was the getting there that presented the biggest obstacle to our trip. As we descended out of the mountains and into the fiery nether regions of Georgia, we were confronted with a sneaking suspicion that our AC was not quite keeping up with the environmental stress of summer in The bulldog state. The further we descended, the hotter things got, until we had no choice but to admit that our AC was in need of mechanical intervention. When your toes start to sweat, you know you’re in trouble. Only a couple hours into our trip, it was obvious that if we survived the journey, it was going to be a very long and miserable day. My brain was telling me to turn back, but when I say I’m going to do something, no matter how ill advised, I follow through. In an effort to cool down we tried rolling down the windows, which resulted in a blow torch like effect. That lasted about two seconds, long enough to become resigned to our fate of seven more hours in less than ideal conditions. So we let the AC continue to blow it’s semi warm air on us as we prayed for rain, or some other form of divine intervention. As with most divine intervention situations, it did not appear. So after nine hours on the road, we finally pulled into the Garfinkel home for wayward Floridians. Once we poured ourselves out of the truck cab and made our way into the air conditioned comfort of our accommodations, all was right with the world. Cindy had, through the magic of the cell phone and internet, made arrangements with the Deland Honda dealer to get us in the next day for repairs. They took care of things quickly, and had us traveling in air conditioned comfort for the rest of our stay and the impending journey home. Needless to say, my credit card took a bit of a hit on this adventure. Fortunately, Folk singers are always rolling in dough for just such an occasion as this. We are back in the mountains now, and are ready to receive a host of travelers from down south. So if the heat gets to you, and you need break, remember to get your AC checked before you hit the road. Or your relatives may get a call from the authorities saying that they found your car somewhere in Georgia with a couple prunes in the driver and passenger seats. Not the way anyone wants to go. Until next time, stay cool and remain calm!
